Conquer an iconic London landmark with New Year fitness challenge
Londoners looking for a New Year’s challenge can defy their fears of heights and climb up to the top of the iconic O2 Arena in Greenwich to raise vital funds for medics and volunteers at London Ambulance Service.
The 90-minute event for London Ambulance Charity promises an exhilarating experience and individuals will be guided over the roof of The O2 and rewarded with breath-taking views of the London skyline.
The Charity supports staff at London Ambulance Service by funding wellbeing initiatives for frontline crews, providing financial hardship support, and helps save more lives by training communities in life-saving CPR skills.
The event will take place on 2 March 2024 but time is running out to book on to the event – please register by 11.55pm on 12 January 2024.
Jess Burgess, Head of Charity Development at London Ambulance Service, said:
“This will be an unforgettable experience for those looking for a new challenge while raising money for our fantastic ambulance crews, call handlers and volunteers who work tirelessly round the clock to saves lives.
“Be quick though – time is running out to sign up for this rare opportunity to climb the summit of the O2.”
Participants are asked to raise £150 in sponsorship to help support the London Ambulance Charity.
If you are interested in supporting the charity’s vital work by taking on a new challenge, register for this event here. A registration fee of £25 will apply.
Last year, London Ambulance Charity funded the Service’s roll out of a ground-breaking campaign that aims to train tens of thousands of secondary school children in the capital to learn life-saving skills.
“We’re planning on conquering the O2 together”
Rob Lewis, Christina Wright and Mariano ladanza, who work together in the public education team at London Ambulance Service, will be scaling the 52-metre landmark in March.
Rob said: “I get involved in London Ambulance Charity events because I’ m very fortunate with being healthy and active.
“When I turned 60 years old a few years ago I set myself a ‘mission’ to do what I could through fitness and activities to stay that way and, of course, raise some funds to help my colleagues on the frontline.”
Rob shows no sign of slowing down. After completing the O2 challenge, he will brave snowshoeing and cross country skiing, a 24 hour swimathon, a triathlon and colour run, Row The Channel and a cycle trip between London and Cardiff.
He laughs: “I call it my 6 in my 60’s – 6 events across each year.”
Christina said: “We’re fundraising for the Charity because we know how much they support our dedicated frontline colleagues.
“A lot of the work we do in the public education team is helping Londoners stay healthy and teach them about the importance of CPR and use of defibrillators. The funds raised by the Charity really helps our communities.”
Mariano added: “I cannot miss conquering this amazing fundraising climb as I enjoy exhilarating outdoor activities.
“The Charity raises crucial funds for our teams and ultimately translates into care for Londoners. That is why it’s so important for me to get involved.”
