We pay tribute to a member of our staff who has passed away

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our colleague Jamil Ahmed, who passed away on Monday 8 February with Covid-19.

Jamil was 82 years old and was part of our Non-Emergency Transport Service (NETS) team, based at Bermondsey, but more recently had been undertaking a role in our Logistics team during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Jamil, often known as Jim to colleagues, had worked for London Ambulance Service for almost three decades, and would have celebrated his 30^th anniversary working for the Service in the autumn, having joined in September 1991.

Jamil worked out of a number of ambulance stations during his long career with the Service: including Camden and Homerton ambulance stations – where colleagues knew him as a very pleasant, well-liked and respected member of the team who wasn’t afraid to get stuck in when the going was tough.

Jamil began his career at London Ambulance Service at Camden ambulance station in what was then our Patient Transport Service. He then became an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in 2003.

After a brief period of retirement during 2013, Jamil returned to the Service as a part-time EMT, before moving to NETS at Bermondsey in 2015. He was part of this team for five years, spending his final year of Service supporting our logistics operations during the pandemic.

Jamil was respected by all at Bermondsey and by colleagues at New Malden – where he often worked to assist with staffing shortages. He would share his experiences with others and his work ethic was impeccable.

Our thoughts are with Jamil’s wife Neelofor, his children Adil, Shazia and Faisal as well as with all his friends and his colleagues across the Service.
