A message from London Ambulance Service

The events of the last fortnight or so since the tragic death of George Floyd in America have been profoundly shocking and upsetting. People from all ethnic backgrounds have been standing up and saying #BlackLivesMatter.

As the repercussions of the events in America reverberate across the world, it is an incredibly difficult time for every single one of the 1,000 BME staff here at London Ambulance Service (LAS).

‘Respect’ sits at the heart of the Services’s core values, a set of values London Ambulance Service prides itself on in order to provide the best care to our patients every single day.

It is a value that everyone is rightly entitled to expect, and so it is abhorrent when any BME person does not receive the respect they should – but instead encounters racism in their every day lives.

There is tremendous pride in LAS colleagues who’ve stood up (and kneeled down) to challenge racism in the last week to create a fairer and more just society.

The whole Service stands shoulder to shoulder with them, with all BME colleagues and with the many diverse communities of London we serve.
